You are looking for a job, have you thought about your e-reputation? Today, many recruiters conduct their investigation on the web before contacting a candidate. Find out how to manage your image on the Internet and avoid mistakes that can harm your application.

With social networks, the candidate’s image is no longer based solely on his or her CV. All the texts, images and videos that appear when a recruiter types your name on a search engine count. All these elements together represent what we call your e-reputation or online reputation. So before you apply, consider checking what recruiters see when they type your name into Google.

Remember to keep your personal and professional life separate

Limit access to your personal photo albums and only accept friends you know. Also, moderate your use of social networks by avoiding virulent personal opinions that could harm you.

Take care of your image on professional social networks

Choose networks such as Viadeo or LinkedIn, which regroup recruiters, candidates but also professionals who can recommend you or give you advice. Don’t neglect Facebook or Twitter, which can also be used to mobilize your personal contacts.

Your profile is your identity card. Include the information that will make you stand out. Like on a CV, you will specify your professional background, your diplomas, your skills and your motivations. You can add a presentation of yourself as well as achievements that can support this CV (documents, photos, newspaper articles, reports…).

Create content to gain visibility

It is important to update your profile regularly, by publishing posts about your professional interests and by developing your network (former colleagues or clients, possible recruiters). Take care of your presentation by paying attention to your spelling and by being relevant in your messages. Use appropriate and catchy keywords. They will be used for the referencing of your page in search engines in order to appear at the top when recruiters are looking for a specific profile.
